CANTALLOC AQUEDUCTS

The Cantalloc aqueducts are located 4 km north of the city of Nazca. Its construction is attributed to the Nazca culture (Early Intermediate, 200 AD-700 AD). Of the 46 aqueducts found, 32 are still in operation today. They were made with flagstones and guarango trunks to capture groundwater. They draw attention to the "puquios", ventilation wells that descend to the subsoil in a spiral and that allow better quality water to be obtained, which were used all year round. There are other aqueducts in various places in the city.
